Why you ask, well let me explain. We have nothing against Hampton by Hilton hotels, but at the end of the day, they are at the budget end of the Hilton chain. Here in the UK, they're often basic rooms with green furnishings, and photos on the walls that represent the local area. We've stayed at Hampton properties, and they are what they are, a basic room. That said we've only ever stayed at a Hampton when using points, and getting complimentary nights here in the UK.
So we were absolutely aggrieved, when we'd paid a not insignificant sum for a Hilton room, only to find we were put into a Hampton room on our first visit. How did this occur? Has anything changed to bring about this jump in comfort levels? Well not a lot; stickers placed over the former Hampton by Hilton logos, and rather than toiletries being in pumps, they are in the usual mini bottles.
In many ways, it's close to being a scam, paying for a Hilton, but getting a Hampton. I don't think that an unfair assessment of the situation.
Anyway we voiced our concerns with both Hilton directly, and the hotel. So how come this review is so positive in the score above? Well the hotel promised to put us in a Hilton room on our next stay, which was already booked and paid for in full. They upgraded us to a corner suite, with a balcony, and frankly the whole experience was in a different stratosphere compared to the awful stay that we had in the Hampton room. The room was spacious, and even with the pull out sofa bed being set up for the children, there was still bags of room.
It was very nice to have a quality hot drinks machine in the room, a Nepressco. There was also a bottle of beer, and a mini bottle of gin. Despite it being chilly, it was great to be able to walk out onto the private balcony. The bathroom was a good size, with both a shower and a bath. All in all, like I've already said, it was a totally different experience. We thoroughly had a great time. With the excellent Executive Lounge, with attentive and friendly staff, we had a couple of relaxing drinks, and enjoyed the snacks on offer. The breakfast offered is one of the best in our experiences, and with free spacious parking, it's a great hotel.
It is a real shame that we had such underwhelming stay on our first visit, but the upgrade to the "Hilton" suite made up for it for sure. Read more. Date of stay: October Rooms. Helpful Share. The room itself was amazing, clean, and amazing views. Lots of towels provided and the Hilton has thought about everything you may need. We dined in the restaurant at night and for breakfast and the standard was second to none. Beautiful presentation and quality of food very high.
Finally, pool area and spa very clean and equally staff too are welcoming and accommodating! Date of stay: June Trip type: Travelled with friends. Conference hotel, but great value. Clearly, this is a hotel geared up for conferences, so it wouldn't be fair to expect too much character or homeliness, but it's well run, comfortable and v good value. The receptionist saw that we had three year old twins with us and offered a portable bed to add to the two single beds in our room and it worked a treat, slotting between the existing beds and creating an ideal set up for us as a family.
Plus, the setting is pleasant, with fields, trees and grazing highland cows all around. Date of stay: October Trip type: Travelled with family.
