Guilio busied himself with the next cocktail, the fruity tequila-based Golden Sunrise tequila, Aperol, passion fruit puree, agave, grapefruit juice and I wondered what it would be like to do this at 2am in front of a cluster of screaming after-partyers.

The next drink had earned us a pair of brightly-coloured sunglasses each. We sat there together in the dim disco light with our pink flamingos, jam-jar cocktails and colourful shades in an odd clash of Ibiza-meets-the-Hangover. I noticed something on the surface and realised it was finished with flakes of gold leaves, a nice touch of bling — appropriate considering the hotel has a grand total of disco balls and the largest one in Europe inside their exclusive club.
I t occurred to me that this was the ultimate room service for clannish socialites.
